Qaciljay means rock in Paiwan. It also implicitly refers to the rocks commonly found on the slopes of the mountain ranges on the east coast of Taiwan, which is home to many aboriginals.
As the work Qaciljay used mountain as a theme, choreographer Bulareyaung Pagarlava brought dancers back to his own tribal village of Buliblosan to learn from the elders. Immersed in the cultural context, dancers learned how to perform land-levelling, ginger-picking, and traditional aboriginal songs and dances through manual labor.
Qaciljay is the second production by the Company, and was also the finalist for the Taishin Performing Arts Award in 2016.
